Client Needs
Provide privacy and maximize small lot boundaries with outdoor living spaces to attain the indoor/outdoor feeling.
tellUs Project Proposal
Extending the visual lines from indoor to outdoor spaces are paramount in making the small courtyard spaces and nearly shot-gun style homes feel more open and arid. Changing pathway materials in one of the courtyard homes aided in defining a space within a space giving the home character and dimension. The focal of the courtyard is the outdoor fireplace with a seating area which can be opened up to from the sliding glass living room doors to make one larger space.
The second courtyard home takes advantage of bringing the landscape inside the walls to form a vegetated enclave environment. Aligning the gate with the water/fire feature takes the viewers eyes from the interior of the home all the way to the back of the property. To soften the hardscape areas and define two separate outdoor spaces, planted beds were added.
The Finished Product
Two homes with maximal use of small outdoor courtyard spaces were created. Adding changes in materials and enhancing the spaces with vegetation helped create a small oasis for the homeowners.
